A Message from our Rector,
Father Grant Wiseman
Dear Parish Family,

I am excited to get to know each of you and to welcome newcomers to our parish. One of the best ways you can help me make that happen is to update your name, address and photo for our directory. This can be done in several ways. We will be place a list with your name and contact information in the narthex. It is for you to check and update our database. If you have pledged online, you can update that information for yourselves. In the next few weeks we will have a gathering where you can learn about our online service, Realm. This tool, we hope, will keep everyone informed. It will hopefully become the place where you can look for information about upcoming events, opportunities for ministries and the calendar of all that is happening at Saint Mark’s. The nice thing about our online directory is that the Realm program can travel with you. It is secure, and you are able to decide how much information you want to share with your fellow parishioners. Please take the time to update how we can contact you. Hopefully, soon we will have new nametags, which will help me and newcomers get to know one another.

Yours in Christ,
Grant +

The Rev. Grant Buchanan Wiseman
Rector

Sunday’s Gospel: August 28
Luke 14:1, 7-14: Humanity and Humility
Faith, hope and charity: the great virtues: humility, the forgotten, and “outside of the loop” virtue. For Jesus, however, humility is fundamental as He points out in this Sunday’s gospel. “Go sit in the lowest place.” Jesus, however, does not want us to deny the talents God has given us. He desires we recognize these abilities, but always as coming from God; and that we use them, like He does, to promote God’s kingdom. So, reflect on your primary God-given talent, and determine to use it in service to others. (Norm Carroll)

Saint Mark’s Chapter of The Episcopal Church Women Organizational Meeting – Beitha Mendez Parish Hall; 9;30 am (8/24)
The Saint Mark’s Chapter of the ECW is reactivating. As women members of the Episcopal Church, all women in every congregation in the diocese are members of the ECW and are invited to be active participants in the organization’s ministries. Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church Women are anxious to help Saint Mark’s Parish and our new Rector, Father Grant Wiseman, thrive. Officers will be discussed. Becky Fogelson is leading the meeting. She was the president of Saint Martin’s Church for two years. Please contact Becky at oldfogey2@att.net if you have any questions.
The Saint Mark’s Guild Resumes (9/15)
The Guild will meet on September 15th at 12:00 noon in the Ministry Center for prayer, a short program and a potluck lunch. We are a group of retired church members who enjoy getting together once a month for fellowship, on the third Thursday of the month. Our outreach is filling the food bags for the homeless that are in the back of the church. Come see old friends and meet new ones. Welcome!

The First Saint Mark’s Church
Beitha Mendez Parish Hall was the first Saint Mark’s Church. The picture on the left, is the inside of the Parish Hall looking south. Behind the altar is an elevated ‘stage’. Today, there is a wall in front of the stage, but you can still access it from the hallway on the east side. The second photo, on the right, is three years later, more formal and altar is up on the stage. Our first Rector, Father Douglas Styles is celebrating Easter Sunday.

Face Mask in Church – Optional
Now that the cases of COVID have thankfully abated, wearing a facial mask is encouraged, but not required. Please respect the space of those who choose to be more cautious.
