Dr. Spencer Taintor: Speaker at the Guild
Dr. Taintor, Head of School of Saint Mark’s School, took his time to speak to the 15 Guild attendees, retired parishioners from very diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. He spoke about the bond between Saint Mark’s Church and School and the future of the School. He offered much information, fielded questions and clarified some misconceptions. It was enlightening for all. The next Guild meeting is scheduled for December 16, at noon in the Parish Hall, with pot luck lunch, and a speaker to be announced. Thank you Lynne for inviting Dr. Taintor!

The Saint Mark’s chapter of the Daughters of the King and the Saint Mark’s school are partnering to provide Christmas Gifts for the children who are patients at the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center. These children are living with HIV/AIDS. The Angel Tree will be decorated with 50 angels, in the Narthex on Sunday, November 21st. Please take an angel from the tree. Each angel has the child’s name, age, and desired gift. This year we Please return the wrapped, with the angel attached to the gift, by Sunday, December 5th. On Sunday, December 12th, the gifts will be placed on the altar, and a representative from the CDTC will be in church to accept the 50 gifts on behalf of the children and to thank everyone for their support.
Saint Mark’s Book Club (12/9)
Our Advent discussion book is Supper of the Lamb: A Culinary Reflection by Robert Farrar Capon. “From a passionate and talented chef who also happens to be an Episcopalian priest comes this surprising and thought-provoking treatise on everything from prayer to poetry to puff pastry . . .” (Amazon). We will meet in the Parish Hall for a Christmas lunch at 11:30, followed by the book discussion at noon.
Our School’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony (12/10)
Saint Mark’s church volunteers will be participating in the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Saint Mark’s school from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday, December 10th. The church is sponsoring two age-appropriate craft tables for children ages prekindergarten to 8 years old. There will be food, beer, and wine (alcohol for adults only!) sold at the event. One of the crafts is children decorating wood cut ornaments. The Dollar Stores have the ornaments and it would be most appreciated if you could donate some ornaments for the children to color: religious themed ornaments, snowflakes, etc. Drop them off as soon as possible to the Church or the School. Any questions contact Sarah Ransdell at 954-401-5181 or ransdell@nova.edu.
Saint Mark’s Church and School – 2022 Pictorial Wall Calendar
Please email Robin Dreyfuss at robindreyfuss@gmail,com your favorite church photos of events/people. This is a great visual opportunity that unites Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church and School community. The calendar will be a beautiful gift to all parishioners.
A Play Area for Babies and Toddlers
The Vestry is preparing a rest/play area for babies and young children during the church services. It will be located in the Tower Room adjacent to the Narthex. It will be gated, and carpeted, in addition to being equipped with a doll house and blocks. We hope to have the space completed by the end of November.
